Here's a Fast and Furious Espresso Report for you – a special update.

Solid snapper on the bite - it's the perfect time to go get some!

Fantastic fish buffets are ready and waiting to serve over the next few days. Delicious and plentiful 'baitfish' for bigger fish, and us humans, are so close to shorelines making all forms of fishing, whether from all types of watercraft to land based fishing, all up and down the coasts. The stars have aligned for some more potentially epic fishing and highly memorable adventures right on time for a few days off.

Yes, baitfish influx is perfect news for catching both snapper and kingfish. Imagine over the long weekend (well you know – Friday work optional?) with all the anchovies, blue mackerel (yes right into the Waitemata as well as out further!), yellow tailed mackerel, snapper, kingfish and kahawai, maybe even a bit of tuna added from the outer gulf. All served in so many different and delectable ways, all caught by you, friends ‘n family? Right now is the time, and you can.

The inner and outer Hauraki Gulf (and many other prime spots along the coast) exploded into life last Saturday coinciding with some beautiful weather, and there’s no reason to expect

otherwise over some of the next few days. Early Saturday morning had many scratching their heads, but once that low tide turned to incoming BOOM, the skies, sea surface and down below lit up like Guy Fawkes, whales, dolphins on nitrous, gannets diving at full speed, the whole 9 yards. The need to feed was in full force with the food chain clanging. Inner channels right from under the Auckland Harbour bridge to the famous and busy Rangitoto channel and surrounds, alive with baitfish and good snapper hanging under or near them, and in 30m, 40m and on out to 50m providing joy to the senses, visual spectacles and bent rods, top water included. Similar epic fishing straight out from Omaha and further north, wonderful stuff. Changing to what Mother Nature silently screams at us soon provided epic battles for many that listened and took action with different lure choices.

Good tidal currents continue over the next few days, a bit less than last week which is still all good, incoming daytime tide, a solid moon phase, (check that wind on Saturday though, plan trips out on the other days probably), all pointers to great opportunities if you can get out there in amongst it. Keep your eyes open for more close encounters of the Orca kind - some incredibly up front and personal Attenborough-style stuff along the North Shore on social media, oh and perhaps a marlin not far from Kawau?

Land based fun fishing is on, good times for all ages on a long holiday weekend.

The Fishing School is in session – first class done, but there’s still time to learn from the remaining 4, next Saturday you can watch soft bait and jig action in the water tank in the classroom and experience exactly how you effect and improve their action, no more guesswork,100% you’ll know how. Watch how and where fish strike lures in real world videos so you can adjust and catch fish that previously ‘spat the hook’. Finding kingfish and which lures to use, reducing tiddler snapper and exploiting what fish see and hear, what we call the ‘trick or treat’ approach.

Class No.2 in session this Saturday 15th Feb. 1-2pm Farnley's Yamaha. Reserve your seat here:

There is no other time to enjoy than now.

See you out on the water, at the Fishing School, or both!

Cheers
